Isaac Julien is a British artist and filmmaker whose work incorporates different artistic disciplines to create a poetic visual language and experimental narrative. He draws from and comments on film, dance, photography, music, theater, painting and sculpture. His 1991 film Young Soul Rebels won the Semaine de la Critique prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Julien was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2001 for his multi-screen installations The Long Road to Mazatlan [1999] and Vagabondia [2000]. Brutal Beauty, a touring exhibition of the late Derek Jarman's work, curated by Julien, was shown at the Kunsthalle Zurich, the Kunsthalle Vienna, and the Serpentine Gallery, London, in 2008.
