Die CD-Rom präsentiert auf eine sehr subjektive Art die gleichnamige Medienkunstausstellung am Institut for Media Art in Amsterdam, Holland.
The CD-Rom ‘s/He'll survive’ is a personal work of art as well as a presentation of works from an exhibition of HfG media art students at the Netherlands Media Art Institute, Montevideo, Amsterdam. More than mere documentation, this re-presentation of the exhibition is a piece in it's own right as it reflects the CD-Rom as a medium in itself. The user navigates across a single level, which contains all the artists on the CD-Rom. By moving the mouse, the user causes fragments of the exhibition to flow over the screen. With each user-interaction, the images become more distorted and displaced. They are deconstructed as if infected by a virus manipulating the data on the disc. The surface moves constantly while slowly degrading in an irreversible manner. The progressive destruction is not declared and the CD-Rom eventually wears away. The life span is short and even a reload cannot repair this damage to the surface. In turn, a multimedia journey descends into chaos.
